Brace yourselves... Mario is coming to smartphones

Nintendo, the stubborn old man of the video gaming industry, is finally ready to wilt and get with the times. After years of persistently staying away from mobile gaming, the Japanese consumer electronics company announced it will develop videogames for smartphones.
The creators of motion-gaming console Wii U and handheld gaming device Nintendo 3DS will partner with DeNA, a Japanese game provider, to set up a new mobile game platform.
Not just repackaged old games
Don’t worry though, the company confirmed that it won’t simply rehash old arcade games for smartphones. "To ensure the quality of game experience that consumers expect from this alliance of Nintendo and DeNA, only new original games optimised for smart device functionality will be created," Nintendo said in a statement. Which means your favourite games from Mario to Donkey Kong and Zelda will feature brand new conquests and twists.
While we’re happy the company’s taking the trouble to build games from the ground up, we were actually happy spending hours and hours searching for the princess only to find out that she’s in another castle. After all, that is how you were baptized as a gamer
